Residents in Joensuu, Tampere and Kemi are likely to experience disruptions in mail delivery on Wednesday following Tuesday’s postal employee walkout.
The disruption may stem from the fact that a large number of letters, magazines, advertisements and parcels were left undistributed on Tuesday.
The early morning distribution of newspapers, however, will not be affected.
“The reason for the disruption in mail delivery is because of the walkouts organised around the country on Tuesday,” said Armo Ainasoja, director of Posti control centre.
Tuesday’s walkouts were organised at distribution centres in some parts of Helsinki, Turku, Kemi and Tampere.
The collective bargaining agreement in the postal sector expired on Saturday. Both sides of the negotiating partners, the Post and Logistics Union (PAU) and the Service Sector
Employers’ Association (Palta) are far from striking a consensus.
