The National Police Board said on Wednesday that it is preparing competitive tendering for weapons, accessories and ammunition, as well as maintenance services.
“The starting point in the competitive tendering process is that the police need modern, reliable and appropriate high-performance equipment and supplies to secure the homeland,” said senior officer Janne Liljavuori in a statement.
At the moment, the tendering includes machines guns used to support police actions and lighter firearms, said the statement.
The competitive tendering does not apply to personal service weapons, whose contract is still valid.
The call for the tender will be published in the spring.
