The Finnish Red Cross (SPR) will start codetermination negotiations soon, reported the Finnish language newspaper Keskisuomalainen.

A total of 300 Red Cross employees have already been laid off this spring.

The new codetermination negotiations come with the Finnish Immigration Service’s announcement to reduce the accommodation places for asylum seekers by 6,000 by the end of November.

The number of Red Cross employees is now about 1,300. After this next round of codetermination negotiations, the number of employees will be closer to 1,000.

Some of the decisions of the codetermination negotiations will be carried out this summer, but the most of the layoffs are scheduled to happen in autumn.

The negotiations will affect new employees at all SPR branches with the exception of Oulu.

There are also thousands of volunteers that work at the reception centres.
