Early potatoes harvested domestically might be available in some stores by the end of the week.
Early potato harvesting has begun at least in Naantali, Rymättylä, said Antti Ruohonen, a farmer.
The first early potatoes were harvested in Rymättylä on Thursday last week. According to Ruohonen, it is still difficult to estimate how large the harvest may be.
“The number of potatoes being harvested is rising weekly. Before the middle of June, they are going to pull up large quantities of potatoes,” said Ruohonen.
May’s good weather has definitely had an impact on the season. “The weather is responsible for a lot of it, but not all of it,” said Ruohonen.
The harvest of early potatoes usually lasts until the middle of July, after which summer potatoes becomes available.
