A parliamentary working group charged with evaluating the funding model of the national broadcaster, among other things, has proposed no changes to the current funding system of Yle. This means that the Yle tax will be maintained.
The working group proposed that the national broadcaster should not be subject to index revision for the years 2017-2019 due to the economic situation.
The parliamentary group will, however, evaluate the economic situation in the spring of 2018 and the possibility to implement index increment in 2019.
The working group proposed returning to the normal index procedure from the year 2020. This way, the funding of Yle has been agreed on for seven years.
According to the working group, the funding of Yle should be outside the government budget.
