The President, Sauli Niinistö on Wednesday held meeting with the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy and discussed various aspects of the upcoming United Nations Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) scheduled for March 18 to March 28 March. A delegation of the country, one of the initiators of the ATT will participate in the conference led by the Foreign Minister, Erkki Tuomioja, said a government press release. The ATT Conference aims at a comprehensive and legally binding Arms Trade Treaty to regulate the international trade in conventional arms. The ATT is to contain strong commitments to human rights and international humanitarian law in the export of arms. The treaty would also have impact on reducing arms trafficking. Finland, as one of the seven initiating countries, has been participating in the preparations for the ATT since 2006, the press release added. More News
