The number of unemployed people in the country stood at 236,000 at end-March, up by 9,000 from that of March 2012, said a Statistics Finland survey report released on Tuesday.
 
On the other hand, the number of employed people this year had declined by 41,000 both in private and public sector to 2,391,000 in March this year from that in March 2012, the report said.

In March, the rate of employment, i.e., the percentage of the employed among the people aged between 15 and 64 years, stood at 66.6, posting a decline by 1.0 percentage point over the previous one year.
 
Of the unemployed, 130,000 are men and 105,000 women.

As of March, 287,000 people are registered as job-seekers with the employment and economic development offices in accordance with the Employment Office Regulations, showing an increase of 41,000 from that at the corresponding time in 2012.
