Taxi drivers may continue to work even after reaching the age of 70.
The government on Thursday announced the new regulation which is part of a law which from June will focus on professional qualifications of taxi drivers.
The new regulation allows those over 70 years to drive a taxi as long as one meets the health requirements and participates in further training and education.
Further training can last for at least a day.
The existing driving licence may be renewed without interruption as long as a person meets the licensing requirements.
The fitness of a driver is assessed by a doctor, but comprehensive examination of the driver’s ability will be provided by Trafi.
The regulation also gives provision for granting licence to drivers outside EU and the European Economic Area who have driving experience of at least a year.
In the past, drivers outside EU and EEA were required to have two years’ driving experience before being issued with licence.
