The report said the total cost of day-care in 2013 rose in Helsinki, Espoo, Turku, Tampere and Oulu while in Vantaa the cost remained almost the same as in the previous year. The increase in cost was partly explained by the municipality merger in Oulu.
On the other hand, the number of children in family day-cares run by municipalities has declined.
The number of children in privately run day-cares has increased in Vantaa, Tampere and Helsinki but has decreased in Oulu and in Turku, in which the use of voucher has been introduced, said the report.
The Kuusikko working group is an intergroup of social and healthcare professionals of six of the country’s biggest cities – Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Turku, Tampere and Oulu.
