The coast guard retrieved the two bodies and two kayaks towards the south and side of Santahamina island in the morning hours of Friday.The bodies of the man and the woman were found near the shipping channel.
The sea rescue services launched an immediate rescue operation after authorities had been informed around 7:00 am that a canoe had capsized in the south of Santahamina island.

The rescue operation was carried out by the Border Guard patrols from the Helsinki Coast Guard station,The Finnish Lifeboat Institution,Border Guard rescue helicopter and the Border Guard surveillance aircraft.
Chief Inspector Arto Karalahti from the Helsinki police department said that the incident was likely an accident but the authorities will with proceed with investigation on the cause of the death.
