This year's yield of cereal crops has differed greatly due to variation in rainfall in different regions of the country, according to ProAgria, an agricultural expert organisation.

Wheat sown earlier in the spring seemed to have yielded a good harvest, credit to the June rains. However, most recently sown cereals such as barley and oat have been affected by the dry spell.

Ostrobothnia region was the most rainy in July where rainfall was more than 120 percent of the average while Uusimaa region and Southern Finland coastal areas were the driest with only 20 percent of the period’s average rainfall.

According to Terhi Taulavuori of ProAgria, rainfall during June has been good to crops but on the other hand water has been too much especially in some farms in Eastern Finland.

The wet weather during the beginning of the summer also contributed to the spread of leaf spot diseases. The situation, however, improved during the dry spell in July.

Overall the yield of the crops is expected to be satisfactory.
