Hundreds of lorry drivers staged demonstrations across the country protesting what they termed the authorities’ carelessness about the transport sector.
They gathered in Tampere, Turku and Lahti and brought out processions to press home a demand for strengthening surveillance in the sector.
In Turku, a convoy of 60 trucks led a procession while in Tampere and Lahti over 30 trucks took part in each of the processions.
The drivers wished to draw attention to the grievances related to supervision of the transport industry.
The drivers are mostly concerned about supervision of lorry traffic along the borders and called for an end to illegal traffic supervision.
The Transport and Logistics Association-SKAL advanced support to the demand for increased supervision but did not take part in the protest.
The police said the protests went on smoothly.
