The Finnish Defence Forces have reviewed their security guidelines as a precaution due to terrorism threat, reported the Finnish language regional newspaper Lännen Media.
The revised guidelines recommend that the military personnel should avoid the use of military uniforms in public places.
The reason behind the new guidelines is apparently attributed to threatening messages targeted towards military personnel.
According to the Officers’ Union, the military personnel currently face “genuine and real threat”.
The Finnish Defence Forces have admitted that the security guidelines have been revised recently. According to Mika Kalliomaa, head of Defence Forces communications, the matter concerns the military personnel and their families.
However, Kalliomaa did not go into details in describing the nature of the threats.
The Defence Forces have evaluated the current risks in cooperation with the Security Police-Supo.
“We have continuous permanent guidelines in force. In addition, the guidelines are present all the time and are reviewed according to the situations,” the Lännen Media quoted Kalliomaa as saying.
