A Joensuu resident was robbed and beaten early Sunday morning in Lieksa, North Karelia, said police who were asking for any eyewitness account of the crime.
 
The 30-year-old man left a restaurant in downtown Lieksa, walking down Koulukatu and continuing onto a pedestrian path that hugs the Lieksajoki River.
 
According to the victim, he was stopped by two men in their 20s, who demanded his money and when he refused, and the younger men began to hit him in the face and body.
 
After the beating, the assailants fled the scene. The man received serious injuries to his face.
