Soini made the remarks while the EU foreign ministers met in Luxembourg to discuss the refugee crisis. “I said in the meeting that compulsory and new relocation on the basis of coercion should not be done,” Soini told the news agency STT over the phone. A European Commission spokesman said at the end of the week that the commission plans to relocate 120,000 refugees from Hungary, Greece and Italy to other EU countries. In any case, the number is over 100,000, Soini said. The commission’s proposal is expected on Wednesday. According to Soini, the Finnish government is scheduled to discuss the possible transfers of refugees in the light of the same figures. “I suppose that coercion may not be an issue,” Soini said. Soini refereed to, among others, the earlier proposal by the commission to transfer 40,000 asylum seekers from Greece and Italy to elsewhere in Europe.
