The Southwest-Finland District Court on Tuesday granted the remand of a person who was arrested from Turku on suspicion of destroying property on Ursininkatu on Saturday.

A fire started in an apartment building forced the evacuation of over 60 people. No one was reported injured.

According to police, the Turku resident, born in the 1960s during the pre-trial investigation admitted his involvement in the act. He has a minor criminal background.

The police arrested the suspect on the basis of the on-duty fire chief's observations and their own investigation.

The man is also suspected of destruction of property in Turku last year and of destroying company property two years ago.

The fire on Ursininkatu destroyed the attic in an eight-story building, and resulting in smoke damage, as well as water damage from the firefighting operations.
