The defence ministry’s website on Tuesday came under a denial-of-service (DOS) attack, which prevented normal access to the web pages.
According to the ministry, the attack lasted for about four hours. In practice, so much traffic was directed to the ministry’s website by the attack that it blocked all access to the site.
During the attack, online visitors were redirected to a temporary site, which holds only the most important information from the ministry.
A previous similar DOS attack took place about a month ago, targeting several ministry websites.
Specialist Kristian Vakkuri of the defence ministry said both the attacks are under investigation but did not want to prematurely assess whether the same attackers were behind them.
