An elk roaming around downtown Helsinki attracted the interest of international news media.
The matter was mentioned by the Agence France Press (AFP), the Australian national broadcaster ABC and the Lebanese newspaper The Daily Star.
The young elk injured itself while jumping through a bank window in Töölö.
Afterward, the animal ended up in Temppeliaukio near the church. The moose was so badly injured that it was put down.
The keeper of the Korkeasaari Zoo, Anne Pääkkönen said it is common for a young moose to get lost in the vicinity of people.
“At this time, the mothers are forcing their young away, so it is hard to say where they might go,” Pääkkönen said.
According to Pääkkönen, it’s impossible to say how the animal ended up in Töölö.
“Central Park certainly has a lot of moose. They can be seen swimming in the Katajanokka.”
