European Central Bank Executive Board member Joerg Asmussen arrived in Athens on Wednesday to discuss the Greek adjustment programme, news agency STT reported quoting Reuters.
 
During the visit, Asmussen is expected to discuss ways for implementing the the Greek economic adjustment programme.
 
The country stands to receive the second installment of the loan in October, subject to implementation of further reforms.
 
Asmussen will meet Greek Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and the Governor of the central bank.
 
ECB Executive Board member Joerg Asmussen will hold bilateral meetings with Greek policy makers and representatives of society and the business community to discuss the Greek adjustment programme and wider euro area developments.
 
Wolfgang Schäuble, the finance minister of German which is one of Greece's biggest creditor, said on Tuesday that Greece needs a third programme of support.
 
Representative of the Greek Ministry of Finance told Reuters that the need for support in 2014-2016 would be much smaller than in the past.
 
This could imply the extension of the maturity and interest rate.
 
According to the International Monetary Fund, the Greek uncovered funding over the next few years is € 10.9 billion.
