Ukraine has set the target to become a high-income country by 2020 through landmark reforms, a presidential aide said Wednesday.

"Ukraine's GDP per capita income should reach 16,000 U.S. dollars by 2020," the first deputy head of presidential administration Gennady Zubco was quoted by the presidential press service as saying.

To meet the target, Ukraine will strive to implement comprehensive reforms in 62 areas, including energy, taxation, law enforcement, national security and health care, Zubco said.

In addition, the official pledged that the government will resolutely fight against corruption and decentralize power to improve people's well-being.

Last year, Ukraine's GDP per capita, the internationally accepted indicator for gauging people's living standards, stood at 3,919 dollars, which is defined as middle-income according to the World's Bank's classification.

A high-income country shall reach the standard of 12,746 U.S. dollars GDP per capita or more.
