Valio said it had lost significant basic milk sales in the last three years and the company’s other production facilities have the capacity for basic and special type of milk processing.
“Valio has now used all measures to improve operations efficiency so that we would be able to pay our dairy farms entrepreneurs at a price which can safeguard the continuation of their liveli-hood. Valio's entrepreneurs are in real difficulty,” said Mika Koskinen, Executive Vice President Operations, Sales at Valio.
The Tampere dairy processes special types of milk and local cheese. The manufacture of basic milk had been already transferred to other dairies last year.
