The Finnish Customs on Saturday managed to auction all the vehicles dumped by refugees from Russia at the Raja-Jooseppi border crossing point during the winter in Inari.

A total of 36 vehicles were sold on auction.

The Customs said the proceeds from the auction totalled 6,300 euros.  A 24 per cent value-added tax was added to the auction price.

The most expensive car was auctioned at 900 euros, while the cheapest one was sold at 1 euro.

“Volga aroused interest [from the bidders] as expected,” said Aarno Rousu, a senior customs officer from Tornio.

More than half of the vehicles auctioned were Ladas.

According to Rousu, some of cars in bad condition ended up in the scrap yard or purchased for spare parts.

The auction attracted approximately 200-300 bidders.
