The chair of the main opposition Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party-SDP), Antti Rinne has disparaged the excessively high salary set for the new chief executive officer of the national betting agency Veikkaus.
On his Facebook wall, Rinne said the 32,000 euro monthly salary is excessive and sends a wrong message.
The SDP chair drew attention of Prime Minister Juha Sipilä to the issue, urging to discuss the issue with the minister concerned.
“A year ago, the prime minister requested the high income-earners to voluntarily trim their wages for the sake of fairness. The PM at around the same time called on employees to accept the wage-cutting competitiveness agreement,” Rinne mentioned.
According to Rinne, Sipilä’s administration has clearly shown that “common voluntariness” does not apply to those who are well off.
