The state last year received a record amount of inheritances without heirs, reported the Finnish language newspaper Keski-Uusimaa. The amount is worth almost 39 million euros.

The previous record, according to the newspaper, was made in 2012, when the state received EUR 24 million from intestate estates.

According to a leading lawyer for the State Treasury, last year was exceptional. The amount was driven up by a number of large estates. The single biggest estate was worth 8 million euros.

The rise of the average level of wealth can be seen in the intestate estates that the state receives.
