Meanwhile, three more people fell sick on Thursday after taking Rainbow toxic frozen vegetables containing Jimson weed marketed by the SOK group.
Evira President and CEO Matti Aho said after the same Belgian firm which supplied Rainbow vegetables informed the Valio authorities that the vegetable-bean-seed (datura seed) might be toxic, too, Valio decided to stop sale of the product to avoid health hazards.
Rainbow toxic vegetables. Photo Lehtikuva Aho, however, claimed no incident of illness from taking the Valio product had been reported so far and the withdrawal of the product from shop shelves would be applicable only for the 2 x 2.5kg packets marked best to be used before 5/2014.
He also said three new cases of Rainbow vegetable poisoning were detected on Thursday.
Data centre head Kalle Hoppu said the new patients need not to be hospitalised adding that the health of the people hospitalised with food poisoning would not be affected permanently.
Valio, one of the top food supply companies in Finland, has already contacted most of its sales agents and informed them about the toxicity of the product.
Earlier on Wednesday, three people became sick from food poisoning after taking Rainbow frozen vegetable products marketed by the SOK group and were admitted to hospital reportedly in a critical condition while five others also fell sick.
Following the incident, Evira imposed a ban on sale of the toxic vegetables in kitchen markets and warned customers not to buy Rainbow vegetable-bean-seed mix because it might contain Jimson weed.
The SOK group also confiscated all Rainbow Filling Pot Vegetables from kitchen markets considering the health risk.
Jimson weed is several centimetres long and has delicate spikes on it. It is thought to have got mixed in with Spanish Romano beans.
About a dozen people suffered food poisoning after taking the Rainbow brand frozen vegetables sold at SOK group groceries.
