As a part of the move, the authorities will also bring some organisational changes in the defence forces including transferring hundreds of officials to other departments.
According to the preliminary estimations, a total of 2000 jobs will be cut and some more job reduction will be achieved through retirement.
The six garrisons or defence wings scheduled to be abolished are Engineering Regiment in Keuruu, Häme Regiment in Lahti, Air Force Academy in Kauhava, North Karelia Brigade in Kontiolahti, Kotka’s Coast Battalion, and Air Force Technical School in Jämsä.
