Four youths were killed in a road accident at Toholampi in Central Ostrobonthia on Saturday morning.

The police said the accident took place at about 6.30 am when a Lestijärvi-bound car carrying the youths skidded off the Sykäräisentie road. All the four passengers died on the spot, said the police adding that the victims were 14, 15, 18 and 21 years old.

According to the police, the weather was good and the traffic was normal at the time of the accident. Sykäräisentie is a small and peaceful road but is slightly bended at the point, said the police.

The Ostrobothnia police are investigating the reason behind the accident and have requested locals, particularly the eyewitnesses, to come up with information in this regard.

The accident meanwhile has shocked the locality. “The accident and death of four young men have touched us all,” said Toholampi Mayor Jari Kangasvieri to news agency STT.

The mayor said Toholampi municipality is prepared to face the aftermath by arranging a crisis group. The mayor, however, did not say how big the crisis group would be.

The local church has held a memorial evening by lighting candles and will organise a grief devotional programme on Sunday to mourn the dead, local church sources said.
