Räsänen said she is convinced that appropriate powers to take action are needed to fight cyber crimes.
Talking to news agency STT, she said at the moment the powers are not sufficient to prevent such threats.
Concrete proposals are likely to be presented at the turn of the year by a working group commissioned by Defence Minister Carl Haglund to look into information-acquisition legislation.

Both the ministers stressed that the designated network monitoring would not breach people’s privacy.
Räsänen said taking no action or not updating the law would pose the greatest danger to the citizens, since it would not be possible to curb cyber crimes.
The views of the ministers come after the Finnish intelligence service Supo on Wednesday revealed that state actors were behind the cyber attacks on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Supo began investigating the cyber attack incidents in the spring of 2003.
The story however became public in October last year. At that time Supo suspected that the spying had been going on for several years.
