Fri, 29 Aug, 2014 12:00:15 AM FTimes- Xinhua Report, August 29 File Photo Getty Image-Lehtikuva. The annual large multinational naval exercise, Northern Coasts 2014 (NOCO14), will be held from August 29 to September 12 in Turku, a coastal city in southern Finland.
The two-week naval exercise is hosted by the Finnish Navy.
Nearly 60 ships, some aircraft, as well as about 3000 soldiers and officers from 14 countries including Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Holland, Turkey, Great Britain and the United States, will participate in the exercise.
The Finnish Defence Forces said the main aim of the Northern Coasts exercise is to improve the multinational interoperability between the participating troops, and the exercise will also strengthen the crisis management capability of the Finnish Navy.
The exercise is also a public event in Turku. Some of the ships will be open for the public on coming weekend.
Based on a multinational invitation, the Northern Coasts exercise has been hosted annually by different countries since 2007.
The exercise is part of the scheduled exercise activities of the Finnish Navy. Finland has participated in the NOCO exercises since 2007.
