A foster mother was handed a conditional sentence on Thursday for abusing two foster children.

According to the Kemi-Tornio District court, the woman forced her foster son aged 8-10 to stand in the cold wearing only his underwear. The woman also inflicted him with matchstick burns.

She caned the boy with a stick or kicked him from behind.

The woman was also convicted for abusing the boy’s younger sister. According to the court, the woman had forcefully grabbed the girl’s wrist causing her pain several times.

The abuse took place between 2008 and 2010.

Besides an additional prison sentence of 60 days, the woman was ordered to pay a fine of 3,500 euros for the sufferings and pain suffered by the boy and 500 euros by the girl.

The court dismissed charges brought against the foster father.
