Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja was cautioned and fined Euro 1,359 for over-speeding in an uninspected vehicle in Helsinki in September 2014, Finnish language tabloid Iltalehti reported on Friday.
 
The report also said in another incident Member of the European Parliament Sirpa Pietikäinen was fined Euro 3,256 in addition to a temporary driving ban for violating the speed limit.
 
In the case of Tuomioja, the speed recorded by an automated control showed that the car was moving at 49 kilometres per hour in an area with a designated speed limit of 40km per hour.
 
As the vehicle was not inspected, it was prohibited to be used for more than three months.
 
The police handed the minister a fine totalling 1,359 euros for traffic and vehicle violations.
 
Tuomioja told Iltalehti that he received a fine for driving uninspected car and only a remark for over-speeding.
 
According to Iltalehti, MEP Sirpa Pietikäinen also had to count fine for over-speeding at Hämeenlinna passage in Helsinki.
 
The police measured the car speeding at 124km per hour in an area restricted to a 90km per hour speed.
 
Pietikäinen received a fine totalling 3,256 euros for compromising traffic safety as well as a temporary driving ban.
 
Pietikäinen told Iltalehti that she had been banned from driving for a few weeks.
