A decision on the matter is expected to be made during a Cabinet Committee on European Union Affairs scheduled to be held on Wednesday.
The seat is the second highest military office in the EU.
According to Helsigin Sanomat, the country will nominate Esa Pulkkinen, Director-General at the Defence Policy Department in the Ministry of Defence for the position.
Pulkkinen is a Major General in rank in the Finnish Defence Forces and has previously served as brigadier general at the EU Military Staff.
The tasks of the EU Military Staff include military crisis management operations and the development of defence cooperation.
The European Union Military Committee will make its choice in spring.
Former Chief of Defence of the Finnish Defence Forces Gustav Hägglund chaired the highest EU military office European Union Military Committee.
