The reception centres in the municipalities of Turku and Rovaniemi are increasing their accommodation capacity for asylum seekers arriving in the country.

The two municipalities will add a total of 80 accommodation places in February.

Following the addition, Turku will have an accommodation space of 180 and Rovaniemi will have 150.

Four more additional spaces will be added to the Espoo’s group and family group home and seven more places are to be added to the Kotka’s Koivula group home.

According to the Finnish Immigration Service, the number of asylum seekers in the country last year was on the rise.

Almost all the reception centres have been in use from the end of last year and the beginning of this year.

According to Visa Knape, a senior adviser at the Finnish Immigration Centre, even a slightest change in the number of asylum seekers arriving calls for additional space.
