Each reception centre can make a list of required products and necessary quantities at lahjoitukset.fi. The person making the donation selects a centre and confirms from the list what he or she may donate and how to deliver it to the centre. The service was developed by concept designer Elina Niemistö, who got the idea at a friend's wedding, when the conversation turned to the congestion of donations to reception centres. Niemistö said that the page structure, familiar to anyone who has used a wedding registry, seemed a natural solution for managing in donations. The main benefits of donating through the web service is that communication regarding donations is moved away from emails and phone calls to the centres, and that centres get only those things they really need. This way, reception centre employees are relieved of managing and sorting out goods and other items. The service is free of charge to reception centres and is being maintained by volunteers.
