Prime Minister Juha Sipilä on Monday said the defence cooperation between Sweden and Denmark does not affect a similar cooperation between Finland and Sweden.

The premier termed the Sweden-Denmark cooperation a positive thing for the stability of the Northern Europe and the Baltic region.

Sipilä said Sweden had made clear its intention of developing cooperation with different partners.

According to the prime minister, it is therefore logical the cooperation adopts a formal format.

Meanwhile, Commander of Finnish Defence Forces Jarmo Lindberg on Monday said the defence cooperation between Denmark and Sweden did not come as surprise to him.

“Sweden has certainly had cooperation with other neighbouring countries. It would have been strange if they had other direction than Finland,” said Lindberg during the Security and Defence Cooperation Seminar at Sälen in Sweden.

Lindberg also does not think Swedish-Danish cooperation would affect the cooperation between Finland and Sweden.
