President Sauli Niinistö is still the top favourite as the next president of the country, if he decides to run for next presidential polls, according to a survey commissioned by a Finnish language tabloid, Ilta-Sanomat.
According to the survey results, 65 per cent of the respondents would cast vote for Niinistö, if he is a presidential candidate in 2018.
Pekka Haavisto with 15 per cent of the support is the second on the list. Other possible challengers are way behind Haavisto.
If Niinistö were to contend, two per cent of the respondents said they would vote for Timo Soini.
However, if Niinistö would not stand in the elections, Haavisto with 35 per cent of the support emerged as the favourite followed by Juha Sipilä with 21 per cent, while nine per cent would vote for Alexander Stubb. The support for Soini in this case was six per cent.
The survey was conducted by Taloustutkimus at the end of December 2015, taking into account the responses of just under a thousand people. The margin of error was +/- 3.2 per cent.
