“Sometimes the processing of matters [which ought] to be expressed candidly or accessing interviews is delayed,” said Esko Repo, the director of Asylum Unit at the Immigration Service.
A great effort is applied in finding interpreters at all times.
Besides the Immigration Service, many other authorities are also competing for interpreters.
Semantix, a company which offers interpreting services, said more recruiting is being carried out.
According to Semantix Director Marja Lähde, the issue is not only about the asylum seekers but also the fact that the country has received quota refugees who speak disparate languages.
There is a huge demand for Arabic, Iraqi Kurdish speaking Sorani, Afghani speaking Dari and Somali interpreters.
According to Repo, interpreters are being recruited from other providers as well, since Semantix alone is not able to meet the demand.
