The Helsinki City administration for a second time has presented a proposal to shift the management of the city to the mayor after the 2017 municipal elections.

The next time the city government will deal with the issue on February 29, the city's head of communications said.

In the mayoral model, the city council would choose a mayor and deputy mayors during every election. The elected mayor would work as the chairman of the city government, deputy
mayors as a member of the city government and as chairmen of industry boards.

In the proposed model, Helsinki's more than 30 agencies and institutions would band together with a central administration, technical competence, social welfare and health authorities, education and early childhood education implementation as well as action on cultural, leisure and fitness.
