The Minister said that the elections will be held on April 17 and they should not be moved in any way.
The municipality elections were originally scheduled to be held this year, but was post-poned until April 2017, said the minister.
Earlier, political parties’ secretaries in February proposed holding the municipality elec-tions between spring and autumn so that they could be merged with the first ever pro-vincial elections.
The minister revealed the decision during the parliamentary question time session.
Vehviläinen also said the question of provinces becoming autonomous region is subject to referendum.
