The Chairman of ruling Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) Alexander Stubb on Saturday dismissed rumours that he would be stepping down as chief of the party.

“I understand that these rumours are well disseminated, but I can assure you that I'm not really going anywhere,” Stubb, also the Finance Minister of the country told news media in Hämeenlinna.

He said he was completely committed to the Coalition Project 2018, which includes party reform, the one hundred year celebration of the Kokoomus party, and the start of the journey towards the 2019 elections.

“I will bring the party to the elections, of course, if we can get a mandate from the party,” said the former Prime Minister.

Stubb also emphasised to his own people that he would continue as chairman.

“It is the best thing in the world to be the chairman of this popular movement, and I will continue as chairman to further this movement toward Project 2018,” he said to an applauding audience at the airport.
