A day of remembrance was marked on Sunday to honour the Finns who had died in wars and peacekeeping missions.
 
The flags were hoisted at half-mast across the country. As a tradition, visits were paid to the graves of the war heroes.
 
The commemoration of those who had died in wars and peacekeeping mission is observed annually on the third Sunday of May.
 
Sunday was also the Christian festival of the Pentecost which marks the occasion of the descent of the Holy Spirit. The Pentecost Day is considered the birthday of the Christian church.
