A deputy director at a refugee reception centre in Kolari has been dismissed following complaints that residents made.
The deputy director at Kemi reception centre, Virpi Pakisjärvi, confirmed to news agency STT that Jari Sillantie was no longer an employee at the Finnish Red Cross- Lapland District.
Pakisjärvi has been involved in mediating the situation in Kolari.
National broadcaster Yle also reported that Finnish Red Cross-Lapland District on Thursday dismissed the deputy director.
The asylum seekers residing at the Kolari reception centre staged a walkout on Thursday. The asylum seekers told the Migrant Tales blog that ill treatment and racism were the reason why they had lodged their protests.
