Two men equipped with sharp weapons on Saturday attacked a police patrol in Joensuu, said the Eastern Finland police.
The incident happened at the Kauppakatu-Siltakatu intersection when the police had been dispatched to the area to investigate a suspected assault.
One of the suspected men attempted to stab a police officer with a knife, while the other suspect threatened the police officers with a sword and struck the police van windshield and bonnet.
The police used pepper spray to subdue the men. The case is being investigated as attempted murder.
