Women's desire to join the country’s defence forces has grown, reported a Finnish language newspaper Keski-Uusimaa.

The National Defence Training Association (MPK) pointed out that women's interests have grown. More than 300 additional participants have come over the last year to the course on eve-ryday safety skills for women.

MPK training officer Irina Lönnqvist said that the courses are filled in minutes, even if there are several hundred places. The association organises training courses in conjunction with the Wom-en's Readiness League.

In the spring, there were a record number of women applicants, 842, for voluntary military ser-vice. This is double the number of female applicants compared to a decade ago.

The National Defence Training Association organises courses exclusively for women. According to Lönnqvist, the course that presents military service to women has been especially popular.
