An appellate court in Vaasa increased the punishment of a convict previously sentenced for col-lecting eggs of protected birds.
 
The court sentenced the man to a conditional imprisonment of a year and four months.
 
The District Court of Ostrobothnia had previously sentenced the 32-year-old man from Närpiö to a conditional imprisonment of a year in February 2015.
 
According to the appellate court, the man had exchanged eggs with other collectors, exported the eggs earning 9,500 euros in the process.
 
When the District Court sentenced the man for three nature conservation offense, the appellate court ruled that acts committed between 1999 and 2011 must be assessed as a whole.
 
The acts consisted of 18 nature conservation offences.
 
The man was also ordered to compensate the state 250,000 euros.
