No human causality, however, was reported in the aftermath of the explosion, Juha Mäkimattila, the manager of the Veitsiluoto mill told the news agency STT.
According to Mäkimattila, the area has been studied, and the chemical spills are in check. They do not anticipate a significant risk of environmental impact.
The reason for the explosion is still under investigation, and the extent of the damage to the factory is as yet unknown.
Following the explosion, the chemical tanks were emptied on Wednesday afternoon. The draining was done remotely using the factory’s own systems, said on-duty fire chief Lauri Manninen of Lapland Rescue Services.
According to Manninen, the factory has been evacuated even for the rescue personnel for a period of time.
