Save the Children Tampere fund embezzlement
FTimes – STT Report, Jul 8

A former chairman of the Save the Children Tampere is suspected of misappropriation of thousands of euros from the organisation’s funds, according to a report run by a Finnish language newspaper, Aamulehti.

The Central Finland Police said funds to the tune of 40,000 euros were reportedly misappropriated from the Save the Children’s Tampere office. Previously, the amount was estimated at 29,000 euros.

The embezzlement took place in 2010 to 2015 and the matter came to light earlier this year during an investigation conducted by the organisation itself.

The police investigation has revealed that the same person is suspected of another similar embezzlement. Preliminary investigations into both the cases are coming to an end.

Save the Children has 79 local associations in Finland.
