A fire control device disrupted the flight of a two-seater Hornet fighter during a Lapland Air Command exercise in Oulu on Wednesday.
The jet's system gave warning of the defect, and an attempt at repair mid-flight failed. The fighter sent notice to the Oulu Emergency Services as a precaution.
The jet's maneuverability remained unchanged despite the defect, and the Hornet landed safely.
“Such faults are not common, and they vary in severity. Fortunately, the fault today was not so serious,” said Lapland Air Command’s Lieutenant Colonel Sami Puuperä.
According to Puuperä, aircraft technicians will examine the jet to obtain more detailed information about the fault.
