European Union (EU) Finance Ministers on Friday gave Lithuania a green light to adopt the euro currency next year during a meeting in Luxembourg.
It still needs to be approved by EU leaders and reviewed by the European Parliament, after which Lithuania is expected to become the eurozone's 19th member on Jan. 1, 2015.
Earlier this month, the European Commission said Lithuania had fulfilled all the required conditions.
The finance ministers of the 18-member eurozone also voiced their approval on Thursday.
Lithuania would be the last Baltic country to adopt the euro, after Estonia did so in 2011 and Latvia at the beginning of this year.
