Photo – Lehtikuva. Two out of every three Finns support sanctions on Russia, revealed a recent YLE survey conducted by Taloustutkimus.
As much as 61 per cent of the respondents said they support the EU’s participation in the sanctions compared to 28 per cent who are against.
Taloustutkimus interviewed around 1,000 people over the age of 15 on whether they supported or were against EU’s participation in the sanctions.
Nearly four out of five farmers supported the sanctions, even though the sector has been hard hit by the Russian retaliated measures.
In regional terms, the respondents from Uusimaa were most in favour of the sanctions while the least support came from northern and eastern Finland.
Highly-educated respondents also showed more support for sanctions compared to less-educated people.
In term of political party affiliation, approval for sanctions was high among the supporters of the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) and the least support for sanctions came from Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) adherents.
The survey was conducted between 11 and 14 August.
